What Can Canvassing Teams Learn From Chris Rock?

I was speaking with a canvass manager today who told me one of his struggling canvassers changes his pitch from house to house.
I told him to think about comedian Chris Rock. When Chris goes on tour, he might perform in 50 different cities, but he doesn't write a brand-new act every night. He performs the same material, refining it with each show. Night after night, the act becomes tighter, sharper, and more effective.
Canvassing works the same way.
How can you become great at your pitch if you're delivering a different one at every door? The more you repeat a proven script, the more natural it becomes. You stop sounding robotic because you no longer have to think about what to say—you can focus on the conversation in front of you.
We can't master a script if we're constantly changing it. Mastery builds confidence, and confidence leads to better conversations and better results.
When a canvasser is struggling, the answer usually isn't to reinvent the pitch. More often than not, the answer is to get back to the basics, trust the process, and master the fundamentals.
